International Baltic Forum for PhD Students of Archaeology

On 28-29.11.2022, the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Research (MOBI) of the University of Szczecin in Kulice hosted another meeting within the Mare-Pomerania-Confinium project. This time it was held in the format of an international forum for doctoral students: International Baltic Forum for PhD Students of Archaeology. In the intimate atmosphere of the MOBI, papers were presented by PhD students from scientific centres in Poland and abroad. Two lectures by invited guests were also given during the workshop. On the first day of the workshop, the lecture, entitled ‘Heritage interpretation in archaeoturism. Heritage interpretation in archaeoturism, delivered by Michał Pawleta, PhD, Professor at Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań. On the second day, participants had the opportunity to listen to a lecture by Dr Agnė Čivilytė (Lithuanian Institute of History, Vilnius) entitled Traveling Craftman in the Bronze Age: New Ideas in Eastern Baltic Research.
The presentations focused on two key areas – the essence of archaeological heritage and the dissemination of knowledge about it, and the shaping of knowledge about the past based on a variety of research tools. The workshop-forum had an interdisciplinary dimension, as not only archaeologists but also bioarchaeologists, lawyers and geneticists presented. The lively discussions held not only in the official part of the meeting, but also behind the scenes, show how important it is to create platforms for the exchange of views and experiences especially in difficult ‘post-Covid’ times.
During the second day of the meeting, participants also had the opportunity to visit the neo-Gothic St Anthony’s Church in Kulice and the lapidarium in the churchyard. The event was coordinated by Dr Katarzyna Ślusarska.
