The Institute of History has been functioning as an organisational unit at the University of Szczecin since 1985. It was founded by staff from the Institute of History and Library Science of the College of Education (previously College for Teacher Training). The Institute of History has been continuing therefore a tradition of academic teaching in History in Szczecin for more than 50 years. Over the years of its development the institute has expanded its didactic offer. Students in History can choose between specialising in teaching or in archive studies. It also proposes new courses of studies: at Bachelor level – International Relations, Archaeology, Media and Civilisation, Military History and Military Science; at Master level beside History, International Relations, Archaeology, Media and Civilisation as well as Military History and Military Science  – Cultural Heritage Management. The staff members are very active researchers, realise grant projects, and dispose high quality expertise in their fields of specialisation, as proven by the prizes and awards received for their scientific publications.
