Summer School on Antisemitism and Xenophobia in the Baltic Sea Region

Summer School on Antisemitism and Xenophobia in the Baltic Sea Region

An international Summer School on Antisemitism and Xenophobia in the Baltic Sea Region took place in Kulice from 28 August to 4 September. It was attended by students from the Universities of Lund, Greifswald and Szczecin. The aim of the school was to show future teachers and historians the knowledge and tools to address the topics of antisemitism and xenophobia. The experts discussed the problem of antisemitism (and all its manifestations, e.g. in art, media messages) both from a historical perspective and especially from a contemporary perspective. An important element was a discussion on how to respond to manifestations of anti-Semitism, racism and xenophobia in order to prevent them in the future. The course culminated with a trip to Roebel to learn about the wasps of the local Jewish community and the activities of the local education centre, located in a former synagogue. Experts teaching the course included: Anna Novikow (coordinator on the part of the University of Greifswald), Henrik Rosengren (coordinator on the part of Lund University), Joerg Hackmann (coordinator on the part of the University Szczecin), Ulf Zander, Eryk Krasucki, Cordelia Hess, Karolina Placzynta, Natalia Szostak, Robert Kreibig.
